Paradise is a city located in Butte County, in the north of California's Central Valley, some 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Chico and 100 miles (160 km) north of Sacramento. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 26,408.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 47.3 km² (18.2 mi²). 47.3 km² (18.2 mi²) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 26,408 people, 11,591 households, and 7,244 families residing in the town. The population density is 558.7/km² (1,447.1/mi²). There are 12,374 housing units at an average density of 261.8/km² (678.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 93.73% White, 0.19% Black or African American, 1.07% Native American, 1.04% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 1.21% from other races, and 2.64% from two or more races. 4.27% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 11,591 households out of which 23.0% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.7% are married couples living together, 10.3% have a female householder with no husband present, and 37.5% are non-families. 32.0% of all households are made up of individuals and 18.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.22 and the average family size is 2.77.

In the town the population is spread out with 20.4% under the age of 18, 5.9% from 18 to 24, 21.2% from 25 to 44, 25.3% from 45 to 64, and 27.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 87.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 83.5 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $31,863, and the median income for a family is $41,228. Males have a median income of $35,419 versus $25,231 for females. The per capita income for the town is $19,267. 12.4% of the population and 9.7% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 17.6% of those under the age of 18 and 6.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
