Prescott was officially incorporated on March 13, 1903.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²). 0.9 km² (0.3 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 314 people, 123 households, and 87 families residing in the town. The population density is 356.6/km² (919.9/mi²). There are 152 housing units at an average density of 172.6/km² (445.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 94.59% White, 0.32% African American, 0.96% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.59% from other races, and 2.55% from two or more races. 4.14% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 123 households out of which 36.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.5% are married couples living together, 11.4% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.5% are non-families. 22.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 5.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.55 and the average family size is 3.01.

In the town the population is spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 5.4% from 18 to 24, 32.2% from 25 to 44, 22.6% from 45 to 64, and 12.4% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 127.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 107.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $39,500, and the median income for a family is $47,708. Males have a median income of $34,750 versus $23,250 for females. The per capita income for the town is $16,931. 18.4% of the population and 13.8% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 24.4% of those under the age of 18 and 10.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
